The Sculptural Heritage of Tibet, Buddhist Art in the Nyingjei Lam Collection, by David Weldon, Jane Casey Singer

Hardcover with DC, 208 pages, color illustrations, London 1999, as new

The Nyingjei Lam Collection is idiosyncratic and refined, showing the advanced sensibility of a careful and sensitive collector. Many of the bronze sculptures found here are highly unusual, and it is very refreshing to see a catalogue made up entirely of works we have never seen before. The authors have written a very well-researched and thoughtful catalogue which explores thoroughly the many themes suggested by the works of art they approach; a terrific job in the difficult field of catalogue raisonne, where the scholar is forced to deal with a selection imposed arbitrarily. Particularly impressive is the wide selection of supporting material from other collections. The catalogue is well produced and the photos are clear.
