Toji Temple is a temple of Shingon esoteric Buddhism known for its great number of mandalas. The mandala is the core of the teaching of esoteric Buddhism. Because they are used only for special rituals, visitors to the temple are not able to see these mandalas except for the three-dimensional one in the Kodo Hall (Lecture Hall).
